From Flight Attendant to Failing Forward: My Career Journey to 2025

As 2025 rolls in, everyone seems to be reflecting, resolving, and setting lofty goals. Me? I’m doing a bit of that too, but I’m also looking back at the twists and turns of my career journey—because let’s face it, the road hasn’t been exactly straight.

I’ve been called many things in my career: cabin crew, marketing whiz, go-to-market strategist, biotech tinkerer, NGO advocate, start-up hustler. (Yes, even I’m out of breath reading that list!) The question I get most often is, “Why can’t you stay still in one job?” But here’s the kicker—I’ve always done the same thing, just in different industries. Call it versatility or restlessness; either way, I call it living.

From the skies to the boardroom: A snapshot of my evolving career journey across industries.

My Career Journey: Matchmaking and Dot-Connecting

If there’s one thing I know I’m good at, it’s connecting the dots. People, ideas, markets—I can’t help but see patterns and possibilities. My career journey has been about finding ways to align these dots, whether it’s through product development or understanding what makes people tick. Creating something people actually need? But don’t get me wrong—it hasn’t been all wins and high-fives. I’ve made mistakes (big ones), faced failures (a few too many), and had to course-correct more times than I can count. Here’s the thing: failing isn’t the end of the world. It’s recognising it, pivoting fast, and minimising losses that count. Basically, I fail better these days.

Adventures in My Career Journey Across Industries

From pre-opening hotels to lab-grown meat to running food donation drives, my career journey has taught me that industries don’t matter as much as the skills you bring to the table. Strategy, adaptability, and a good sense of humour are universal currencies. Who knew saving food waste and marketing snail mucin would have so much in common?

Looking Ahead in My Career Journey: With a Partner by My Side

2025 feels different because this time, I’m not charting the course alone. My partner (a.k.a. the steady one) and I are mapping out what growth looks like together. Whether it’s building careers or sneaking in more travel (fingers crossed), having someone in your corner makes the ride a lot more fun.

The Big Takeaway from My Career Journey

If I’ve learned anything, it’s that there’s no such thing as a straight path—or even a predictable one. My career journey has been anything but ordinary, but that’s what makes it worthwhile. Success is messy. Progress is personal. And every stumble is just another step forward if you let it be.

So here’s to another year of lessons, laughs, and hopefully fewer stumbles.

Cheers to 2025!
